Electrical Wiring Accessories Installation Method

Below is brief method for the installation of electrical wiring accessories for any kind of commercial or domestic building project.

All documentary requirements for this works will be submitted for consultant approval and this will include Manufacturers data, certificate of compliance, brand designation, type and class including samples.

Below is list of tools necessary for electrical works. All Instruments will be checked and calibrated to ensure accuracy before using at site.

• Ladders/Scaffoldings
• Continuity Tester
• Multitester
• Hand Gloves

Fall Protection Equipment and other PPE as necessary

Sequence of Work For Wiring Accessories Installation

Prior to installation ensure all relevant drawings are approved and are available to the installation team.

Ensure that during the Installation of the Wiring Accessories in the Void area or Riser’s area, Fixed Scaffolding is to be used.

Electrical Engineer or Electrical Supervisor should check the approved isometric drawing of Wiring Accessories layout and ensure that all accessories (Outlets and Switches) are received at site.

All Wiring Accessories (Outlet & Switch) shall be installed in correct location as per approved electrical shop drawing.

Socket Outlet Installation

Install sockets as per approved layout drawings and as per specification. All sockets shall be installed rigidly without any loose parts.

Connect the pulled wires on the sockets. Check correct size of wires as per approved shop drawings before connected to the sockets.

Ensure that each outlet shall be provided with two earth terminals in accordance with section 607 of BS7671.

Ensure to use the metal clad type in the (plant room area), white plastic type in the (riser and or void area), satin chrome screw less type in the (corridor area, circulation and or staircase area) and weather proof type in the (external area).

Ensure that the number of sockets connected to the circuit is correct.

Ensure that the 13A switched socket is double pole switched.

All the weather proof sockets are a surfaced mount type and it should be installed as per approved shop drawings.

Install circuit breaker to the circuit. Ensure that the ratings of all the sockets are correct and according to the schedule.

Install floor service outlets according to approved drawings.

Ensure that relevant tests are done and properly documented.

Ensure that all sockets are clean and free from any scratches.

Terminate/connect the wires according to the approved shop drawings and projects specifications. Terminated by contractor’s specialist.

Switches Installation Procedure

Verify the mounting height against approved drawings prior to installation of approved switch assemblies.

Install the correct type of switches in different type of location. Ensure that correct number of ways and gang are installed.

After installation, verify the mechanical operation of each switch.

Check for tightness of fixing screws.

Ensure that all switches are clean and free from scratches.

Check the correct size of wires as per approved shop drawings before proceedings.

Terminate/connect the wires according to the approved shop drawings and projects specifications. Terminated by contractor’s specialist.

Ensure that proper circuit identification / markings as per approved shop drawings for Wiring Accessories (Outlets and Switches).

Ensure that all wires and cables containment shall be fully concealed as per approved shop drawings.

Ensure that all the faceplate installed is a screwless type.

After installation,  cover all the Outlets and Switches with polythene sheets as protection against dirt, moisture, and other construction debris and as per approved IAQ Plan.

Other components not mentioned in this method statement will be installed according to equipment manufacturer’s catalogue included in the approved material submittal and according to manufacturer’s recommendation.

Raise inspection request for inspection and approval of the electrical works.

Checklist for Installation of Wiring Accessories

Check the installation of Wiring Accessories is complete as per approved layout shop drawings, relevant standards, and contract specifications.

Wiring termination of Wiring accessories is done in all Outlets and Switches.

Check all peripherals like Outlets and Switches are installed.

Wiring Accessories (Outlets & Switches) are leveled/ aligned and square using spirit level.

Check wires entering the Outlets and Switches devices and conduit box are having correct rubber grommets.

Proper supports for outlets/switches installed on walls, false ceil etc.

Wiring Accessories (Outlets &  Switches) coordinated with MEP and other services.

Check heat resistance wires are installed near fixture/luminaires.

Wiring Accessories (Outlets & Switches) are covered with polythene sheets as protection against dirt, moisture, and other construction debris.

Ensure and check that entire installation in in compliance with applicable regulations.

Check labeling/tagging of Wiring Accessories (outlets & Switches as shop drawings and specifications.
